Bio & Expertise
Tom is a partner and co-founder of Innovation Industries.
Before joining Innovation Industries, Tom co-founded U-Gene Research, a clinical contract research organisation located on-site at the Utrecht University Medical School. As the company’s CEO, Tom grew the company in 10 years’ time from a university spin-off into one of Europe’s leading Clinical Pharmacology Units. Tom successfully sold the company in 1997 to Kendle (US), which was further listed on the Nasdaq in 2007. Tom then co-founded Life Sciences Partners (LSP), a life sciences venture capital fund with offices in Amsterdam, Munich and Boston. As a general partner at LSP, Tom sourced, financed and led successful exits for several high-performing life sciences companies from Europe, Israel and the United States.
As of 2006, Tom concentrated on financing and setting up early-stage venture capital funds in the Netherlands to strengthen the Dutch tech and start-up sector. He co-founded the Erasmus MC Biomedical Fund in 2007, the Life Sciences Fund Amsterdam in 2009, and the Twente Technology Fund in 2010. In 2017, Tom co-founded Innovation Industries alongside partners Nard Sintenie, Chris Sonnenberg, and Harm de Vries. He holds a degree in Pharmacy from Utrecht University.
